Training for a 50-mile Ultramarathon: Battling The Elements & Kit Test

The journey to my 50-mile ultramarathon is officially underway, and let’s just say—it’s been an adventure already! If you’re a female trail runner who loves pushing limits, embracing the chaos of training and testing gear in the toughest conditions, you won’t want to miss this.

Testing New Kit in Brutal Conditions

Trail running is unpredictable, and this week’s training proved just that! I took my Trail Goddess, trail running kit, including the Gaia Waterproof Jacket out for a real test in:

Freezing cold temperatures – Because winter miles bring summer smiles, right?
🌬️ High winds and relentless rain – The kind that makes you question all life choices.
😱 Unexpected disasters – Because what’s an ultra without a bit of drama?

The Gaia Waterproof Jacket was a lifesaver in these conditions, keeping me dry and comfortable despite the brutal weather. When you're training for an ultra, having the right gear—like a lightweight, breathable, and waterproof jacket—is essential for staying warm and focused on the trail.

But that’s the reality of long-distance trail running—it’s raw, unpredictable, and so incredibly rewarding.
